Which song shashi kapoor came across suddenly and why this immortal song of Kishore da got rejected initially is the topic for today.

Hello Friends, welcome to janta talkies.

In the 1974 released NN Sippy’s Super Hit film, Chor Machaye Shor, for which the leads roles were Shashi kapoor, Mumtaz and Danny. Music for the film was by Ravindra Jain, which was his first movie as a Music Director and the lyrics of the songs were written by Ravindra Jain and Inderjeet Singh Tulsi.

It was during the shoot of the Movie, Chor Machaye Shor, when one day Shashi Kapoor and Mumtaz went to the recording studio to listen to the song, ‘le jayenge le jayenge so that they can prepare themselves accordingly before the shooting of the song.

The whole music unit was there and Shashi kapoor started some normal discussions with Ravindra Jain. Shashi kapoor was quite happy with the songs Ravindra Ji had composed for the film.

Ravindra Jain thanked Shashi kapoor and said that he had very high hopes with the songs of the movie. Jain ji further added that, he had been trying hard to get a break in the film industry for last few years and had also signed a movie, Yeh Silsila Hai Pyar ka’ earlier. He had recorded few songs for that movie and one of the songs was by Kishore da. But unfortunately the shooting of that movie never started. Shashi kapoor felt sorry for this but inquired about the song sung by Kishore da. Shashi Kapoor wanted to listen to it once.

Ravindra Jain had the recording of that song with him that day. He played the song and everybody listened to the song and was stuck with awe. The song was, ‘Ghungroo Ki Tarah, Bajta Hi Raha Hoon Main’.

Shashi Kapoor immediately contacted the director Ashok Roy and asked him to come down to the studio as early as possible. By the time when the director entered the studio Shashi kapoor and Mumtaz with all other unit members of the movie, Chor Machaye Shor had listened to the song many times.

Upon arriving, Shashi kapoor asked the director to listen to the song and asked the director to include this song in his movie. But there were no such situation or scope in the movie where a new song could be added. But Shashi kapoor firmly said that, if you include this particular song of Kishore da, this movie will definitely be a Super Hit and people will remember this film just because of this song.

Shashi kapoor along with the producer, NN Sippy changed a fight scene with a song inside the prison, and finally Shashi kapoor was seen singing the song in presence of Danny and Asrani in the movie. Actually, the original script had a fight scene between Danny and Shashi kapoor in the prison before they become good friends in the movie, which was a very common formula for seventies action movies. The fight scene was later shifted to another part of the film when the four prisoners escape from the prison and enters a village.

But the power of Godly voice of Kishore kumar again is proved here in this very melodious and immortal song. Shashi kapoor had rightly said that, film Chor Machaye Shor will only be remembered for the song, Ghungroo Ki Tarah, Bajta Hi Raha Hoon Main’.  And till date this song remains one of the very best songs in the entire career of Shashi kapoor Ji. As per sources, this song was among the favorite songs of Kishore da also.

Other songs were also a hit number of the movie. But the song, Ghungroo Ki Tarah is one of the best songs of the entire seventies.
