Yeh Jeevan Hai, Is Jeevan Ka Best Philosophical Song of Kishore Kumar was created while having tea inside the studio room

This very exciting blog speaks about a super hit Philosophical song of Kishore Kumar which he recorded in front of Laxmikant Pyarelal ji for which the real melody of song came out while Kishore da was taking a sip of tea. How this Most Unexpected thing took place and how the Legendary Kishore Kumar made this song immortal with his most harmonious voice, let us read it out.

It was during the end of 1971, when Kishore Kumar went to a studio to record a couple of songs for a family drama movie, Piya Ka Ghar. The movie was directed by the great film director, Basu Chatterjee which was released in the year 1972. Laxmikant Pyarelal Ji was the Music Director and Anand Bakshi Sahab wrote the lyrics for the songs of the movie.

There were four songs in the movie. Two of them were sung by Kishore kumar. After entering the studio Kishore kumar sat with Bakshi sahab and Laxmikant Pyarelalji and understood the situation of both the songs.

The first song which Kishore da recorded was, Bambai Shahar Ki Tujhko Chal Sair Kara Doon, which was perfect after one or two retakes. The next song was Yeh Jeevan Hai, a Mind-blowing Evergreen Song by Kishore Kumar. After few rehearsals, Laxmikant ji did not get the feel, which was needed in the song. Laxmikanth and Pyarelal ji sat with Kishore Da and again tried to discuss the situation of the scene in the movie. Kishore Da again rehearsed the song for three to four times. The feel that the Music Directors demanded was not getting reflected anyhow. After few more rehearsals Kishore Da became a bit tired and asked for a Cup of Tea.

The whole music team also went for a break and tea was served to Kishore Da. Laxmikanth Pyarelal Ji also joined Kishore Da, and that is when the magic happened. Kishore Da placing his right cheek on his right hand casually started humming the song in a very soft way, when Laxmikanth Ji shouted in joy, ‘Kishore Da, like this, like this only. We wanted the song in this manner.’  Kishore da a bit surprised looked at them but did not stop singing the song. He finished the song on the tea table with one hand on the cheek and went straight to the recording room with the same tea cup, though the tea which was served was over by then. With the empty cup he went inside the recording room and within a minute the whole music and recording team including Laxmikanth Pyarelal Ji were ready for the final recording. They knew it, Kishore da has understood when very well what he has to deliver.

Just One take and the Recording of that song were perfect. Kishore Da while recording the final version of the song kept his chin on both the hands throughout and recorded the whole song with a very soft and tender touch.  And the rest is history. If you hear the full song, you will find the soft touch of Kishore da in the whole song which is impossible for many Playback Singers to maintain the same rhythm thoroughly in a song, without any changes. That was the power of Kishore kumar.

Most importantly what we see that, Playback Singers, Music Directors, Lyric Writers And Everybody who all were involved for any Movies during Sixties, Seventies or Eighties even, they had some basic commitments towards their work. If we take the example of Laxmikanth Pyarelal Ji while recording this song, we see that, until and unless they were satisfied with Kishore Da, they kept on rehearsing him. Speaking of Kishore Da’s dedication and commitment, he kept on rehearsing the song without any excuse, and delivered what exactly was required in the song.

. That song was picturized on a new actor Anil Dhawan. Kishore Da or Laxmikanth Ji could have easily recorded the song in a very ordinary manner. But their dedication and loyalty towards their profession restrained them from doing so. That is the only reason that such songs when we listen even after thirty or forty years, seems to be so fresh and pure, and this purity and dedication in those songs shall surely make them remain Immortal Forever.
